Palau is a group of islands that's sort of a gateway to Micronesia. There are flights from both Asia and Guam (and, while I was there in 2002, there was talk of a new national airline). One of Palau's big attractions is the Rock Islands, a bay full of mushroom-shaped islets. Most of them are small and topped with vegetation, but some are large enough to have beaches and places to explore. A boat trip through the islands is fantastic; you can snorkel and dive or just relax. (I went with Sam's Tours.)
This is the base of an island -- at the waterline. Snorkeling under an island can be really great!
